Buyers who need thin-wall tubing that bends, coils and welds without cracking — yet still carries real strength and shrugs off corrosion — face a familiar headache: Grade 5 titanium is strong but hard to form, and Grade 2 forms easily but lacks strength. Grade 9 titanium, the near-alpha alloy Ti-3Al-2.5V, sits in the sweet spot. That is why it has become the default grade for aerospace hydraulic lines, bicycle frames and marine piping.
What is Grade 9 titanium (Ti-3Al-2.5V)?
Grade 9 is a low-alloy titanium grade with 3% aluminium and 2.5% vanadium. The small alloy addition lifts strength well above commercially pure (CP) titanium while keeping the alloy cold-workable — a combination CP grades and the high-strength Grade 5 cannot both offer. It is specified under ASTM B338 (tube), B348 (bar), B265 (sheet) and AMS 4943, among others.

When your tube must be bent, coiled or welded and still carry meaningful pressure, Grade 5 is usually overkill and harder to work; Grade 2 may be too weak. Grade 9 is the balanced pick.
